A selected exhibition of contemporary craft made in Shetland by some members of the Shetland Arts & Crafts Association.
The show represents new work; new ideas which may be inspired by Shetland’s environment, or new developments of textile processes, or explorations of materials and techniques. 
The Association grew from a public meeting of craftmakers, designers and artists in 1995 and now involves around 60 people, working in all parts of Shetland, including Fair Isle, Whalsay, and the northern isles of Unst and Yell.
An organising committee of volunteer craftmakers is at the centre of this supportive network. They share information and opportunities within the membership for exhibition and marketing, and promote the work of full members through a website. Their main focus each year is the organisation of a weekend craft fair for members, each November, when thousands of visitors buy Shetland craft product over three days at Clickimin Leisure Centre.
The Association works towards improving standards of design and presentation by implementing a Quality Control Assessment programme, delivered through Shetland College UHI.
To promote Shetland craft outwith the islands, Shetland Art & Crafts Association members market their work through their own websites, and take part in many exhibitions and selling events in galleries and retail venues in UK and abroad.
Shetland Arts supports contemporary craftmaking in Shetland through various programmes to develop the creative and professional practice of individual craftmakers, designers and applied artists working in the islands. This is done through individual mentoring, creative development and exhibition projects, and “Working Up”, a small grant scheme of awards for the development of Shetland based craftmakers’ work. Since 2006, “Working Up” has awarded 40 small grants to Association members.
